Sunday we headed north on 54 at Tucumcari. It's a 2 lane road at 65 mph and different views than the highway all the time. Stopped for lunch and saw a truck with WI plates. They were from Tomah. They had stopped last night in Gallup due to white out conditions at 6:30 p.m. Glad we were through there when we did! Not much to do/quilt shops to stop at on a Sunday. Called ahead for a hotel room in east Wichita. Stopped at a Pizza Hut before we got there. Our manta the past few days to the kitties has been: "wake up" "no sleeping" Just trying to get back at them for all the meowing in Flagstaff on Friday night. It worked on Saturday night-they were tired and slept and not much noise. Socks was at it again on Sunday night. Renee seemed to sleep thru most of it. I was kind of cranky for a while in the morning. While packing up, the car next to us had WI plates. They were from Ladysmith area. They had left San Antonio, TX on Sunday morning and driven 10 hours. They were headed to Mpls area and would finish their trip home on Tuesday.
We found a quilt shop just outside of Kansas City-Olathe, KS. Renee found a few fat quarters and I found some white on white for more redwork embroidery snowmen someday. Back on the road. Fons & Porter are closed on Mondays. Found a few other shops that are also closed on Mondays. Made another quilt shop stop in West Des Moines. Cute little shop with fun fabrics. Renee got a few more fat quarters for her stash. I bought a pattern-that was about it. Back on the road. Renee was looking up hotels in the Albert Lea, MN area. That was our goal. It was before 7:30 when we were nearing the area. I said, it's only 3 more hours to home, Let's Go! Ok with her. Stopped for more gas. Stopped in Owatonna for Culvers! Haven't had any for more than 2 months. Yummy. 10:00 rolled into Renee's yard and unloaded her. I stayed at 29 Pines near the farm. Wasn't going to interrupt anyones' evening that late. And, what to do with the kitties. Needed a 4th night out, so it was there. Socks wasn't too bad, but threw him in the crate from 1:30-5:30. Seems like once it's light out and he can sit on the windowsill, he's fine then.
Stopped by Jim's. He picked out a tablerunner. Stopped by Dale's. He's moving around pretty darn good with his new hip. He picked out a tablerunner. Stopped by Gerry's. Nobody home. Left a note to pick his tablerunner and I'd pick up the leftover one in May. (John James' 2nd birthday). Off to meet up with Parker-neighbor-who's attending Stout. Had a "package" to pick up from him and give to his dad. On the last leg of the trip just before noon. Stopped for gas and lunch in Tomah. Barb called about 3 to see where I was. Told her she'd have her "package" before dark-not to worry. She was "secretly" tracking my whereabouts. I rolled in about 4:30. Unpacked the truck. Was going to head over to the post office, but read a text that said "incoming". I thought it meant my adopted dog, Molly, was on her way over. I go out to the end of the driveway and start whistling for her. Neighbors start driving in the driveway. "Nicholson dinner at your house" I was told. They brought pizza and drinks. I took the chance to wipe off the table-2 months worth of dust on it! it was just a quickie supper. Catherine had to get home to change and the rest of us joined her at City Hall where she was sworn in as City Clerk. All the hard work campaigning had paid off!
Just getting around to finishing unpacking today. Dirty clothes have been thrown down the laundy chute. Will work on that tomorrow. Always good to get home. Takes a few days to get back in the swing of things!
5694.3 miles total on this AZ Adventure!

Wed Renee joined me in the pool. Joined us as we had coffee. Off on a quilt shop hop. Back to Mulqueens where the clerk had a meltdown last year. None this year. We picked out the backing for Renee's quilt. Check-got that done. The clerk was "allowed" to make the 3 cut lengths for me. They only make 1 cut per bolt...but since it wasn't busy, she did. We profusely thanked them. Off to the Scrapbooking, Etc store. That's where I bought the jelly rolls for the quilts I made a couple weeks ago. Off for a quick lunch at Mc D's and then across the street to visit the Three Dudes again. They're now moved into their new space. Stopped at 35th Ave Sew & Vac in Chandler. I fell in love with some kid print there and bought that to make for Jon & Karen. I'm just not excited about the one I made early on-and still haven't finished hand sewing the binding. I'll have to look online for more of it, tho to have enough for the backing. Zoe's Trunk was next, then Bernina SW. Back home for a short rest. Picked up Sharon & Larry and headed to Tia Rosa's. They'd never been there. Margaritas all around. Nice dinner and we still had room for vanilla bean ice cream.
Thurs it was cloudy and a bit of a breeze for our last day in the pool.
The sun was out by the time we were done. Coffee and water poolside. Said our good bye's to Larry & Sharon and look forward to keeping in touch over the year and next year when we meet again. Off to the Olive Mill for lunch and a tour. Made a few purchases. Then headed out to Superior for the Boyce Thompson Arboretum. Got some shots of some of the cactuses blooming. Too early yet for the Saguaro's, tho. Some were starting to get white at the tops and forming flowers. Took the high road hike again. Not sure how I did it 2 years ago while holding onto Murphy's leash. The steps sure seemed more steep this time around. I was reminded I was 2 yrs younger then! Back home and time to get serious about the packing. The packmeister had to scratch her head a few times, but managed to get it all in. Grilled pork chops, sauteed mushrooms and steamers mixed vegs. Trying to clean out the fridge. After supper, cleaned out the fridge leftovers and took them over to Kay and Ray (his twin sister Fay) from Texas. They won't be leaving until May so they'll
pass on whatever they don't finish.
Up Friday about 6:30. 8:30 we were finally on the road-to breakfast! Crackers & Co for cinnamon french toast again. Made a stop in Paradise Valley to visit Cosanti. This is where they make Soleri brass bells. yep, made a purchase. There'll be a new sound in the back yard this summer. Finally serious about heading out of town. Always a sad sight to no longer see the saguaro's. Went up to Flagstaff and then went down the Oak Creek Canyon. Last year I thought that was the better view than climbing out of the canyon. Renee was impressed. Went through Sedona to the west end of town to the quilt shop. Nothing really screamed out to be taken home. Then further out of town and turn around to get a view of the red rocks. Overcast....wish the sun had been out. Occasionally, it would peak out. We went to the Red Rock State Park. Took a quick little .5 mile hike along the creek. Need to allow more time on another visit. They have quite a few little hiking trails. Saw a bald eagle in a tree top on our way into the park. Some scenic views on the trip along the red rock loop trail. Back through Sedona and up the canyon before it got dark. Back to Flagstaff and checked into our hotel. Looked up some local establishments and picked the Lumberyard as our dinner destination. Small brewery. Had some wonderful red raspberry ale. Great food, too. Back to the hotel and watch the Lionell Ritchie special. Time for some shut eye.
The Boys did not cooperate nor keep quiet from abut 3:30-5:30. We kept trying different things. Finally put them back in the crate and covered it up. They finally settled down after spatting for a bit-must have been making more room for each other.
Got up about 7:30. 1-2" snow outside. Looks like it's already melting. Packed up and cleaned off the truck. Of course, the snow brush is buried deep inside-way out of reach. Went to meet Erica Kragness (my 2nd cousin's daughter). She's Renee's age. I didn't even know she was there. We ordered and were almost finished before Erica and hubby Matt got there. She had gone to a swimming class. By noon, there was about 3-4" snow on the ground. About 20 min out of town, the roads were dry and the sun was out. Was windy then. Made a stop in Winslow, AZ to stand on the corner....even had a red flat bed ford parked there. Back on the road. I drove to the NM state line. Potty break. Renee took the wheel and it stated snowing again. Got heavy for a while and she was following a semi at 55 (it's 75 mph). Snow squalls kept coming and going. Finally, crossed over the Continental Divide and we saw sunshine again! Stopped for gas in Grants, NM and had ice across the whole front end of the truck! Glad I didn't bother to wash it before we left!
Spending the night east of Albuquerque. Heading north tomorrow at Tucomcari towards Witchita KS.

Saturday pool time-check. Oil changed-check. Work on table runner-check. That new little tool to miter corners will take some getting used to. The corners just look ok. Have to work on that. Takes a bit more fabric-and I'm gonna be close! I'll do the rest my own way! Woodshop burger night-check. Sat with some of the pool ladies. I got caught again! The finally figured out/remembered I'm single. Made it thru the season without going to any of their activities. One said, we might be old, but we have fun. They introduced me to the new president for next year. She's my age-so maybe there's hope! Went to pick up mail and got hailed by another pool lady and sat with her til her husband was done in the pool. Finally got back around 8! Now that lots of people have left, those still here want to sit and visit more. Talked with Tootie to catch up and hear what's happening back home.
Easy Sunday morning. Put my snacks together for the day. Did a little more sewing. Figuring out the last of the bindings. It's gonna be real close. I even pieced 1.5 " pieces together to make 2.5". I know I'll have to make the ends of one a different color to make it all around. Went to Karen & Palmer's about 11:30. Bernie and Becky pulled up right behind me. What timing! Jim, Kristi, Ellen, Olivia were also there. They came in from MKE on Friday early afternoon. They'll be here for the week. Such energy in an almost 2 yr and 4 yr olds! Snacked and had a couple beers. Karen turned down the stove since we were busy munching. It was low 90's but a breeze blowing on the back patio, so didn't feel too bad in the shade. Thought I would leave about 5:30/6. Stay and have a margarita with us....have a ham sandwich.....stay and watch the pool lighting.... (Palmer & Jim fixed the light on Sun morning) Have some cake....At 9:00 I asked if I could go home now! Had such a great time with everyone! Thanks, guys!
Monday was back to the pool-about 65 degrees and a dozen women in the pool. Larry & Sharon brought me a cup of coffee, so we were still able to sit and visit. They also invited me for supper. Back to these darn table runners! Got the binding on the 3rd one-used the tool on 4 corners and I did my usual way on the 90 degree corners. Worked better this time. Still needed to be stitched in the ditch. Off for my dinner date. Took along leftover crackers/Olive Mill Tapenades-and some Honey Weiss. They thought that was pretty good! Might have to bring them some next year-but it is available around town. Larry made corned beef & cabbage. Really lean meat and really good! It was the first time they used the kitchen table! He sent us to the AZ room while he made coffee and did the dishes-we said we'd do them, since he cooked-slaved over the hot stove. Then he comes in to take a drawer out of the end table. Used it as his serving tray, as he returned with strawberry shortcake and coffee. They are just so enjoyable. Said I'd go thru withdrawal after spending a whole month with them this year, vs the 2 weeks each of the past 2 years. It was after 8 and I decided I should go home. They walked me back-as they took garbage/recycling with them. At coffee this morning, they walked around the park for a while. Gorgeous night out. Warm, but with a breeze.
65 degrees again for pool time this morning. Yep, personal coffee delivered again. I'm spoiled. Left at 10:30 to get on with the day! Stitched in the ditch on runner #3. Added border to #4 and stitched in the ditch. Needed to finish top stitching around the ends on all 4 runners. Renee was texting in between from Mpls airport. Got the cat hair off all of them! Finally DONE !!!!!!!
Had some lunch and watched Days. Won't see it the rest of the week-nor most of next week. Just read about it online. Packed up Lois and my winter coats. Hid Renee's quilt in between. Added our pillows to the space bag and sucked it down pretty flat! Did a little other organizing for packing. Renee is the official car packer! Did some laundry in between. Still have lots of threads to sweep up. Renee comes in around 7. Then we'll stop at Organ Pizza Stop so she can be entertained while eating pizza. Will probably do our quilt shop hop Wed and go to Boyce Thompson Arboretum on Thurs. Won't be as hot. Cooling off to 76. Actually, there's a cold front coming in for the weekend. Only 70 on Sat.
We;re heading home thru Sedona. Might go north from Flagstaff up thru Utah and Arches National Park and then across Colorado. Will depend on the weather forecast. Looks like some snow flurries around Vail. Will look it up tomorrow!

Wed. the pool was warm again! Been a small group the rest of the week 6-8. Guess the cool water on Monday scared them away. Or they're running around getting in their last visits here and there before they leave. Had a nice lunch/visit with Christy on Tuesday. Paradise Bakery & Cafe. She hadn't even been there yet this year. Her husband and a friend went to the last Brewers game in the area. Stopped in at Quilter's Oasis. I hadn't been there yet on the various shop hops. Nothing that interested me. Stopped by the grocery store with USBank so I could renew a CD. Wow, a whole 2%! After the 5 years (59 months) guess I'll start taking it out-it's an IRA. Finished quilting 2 of the tractor table runners. My fancy angle finder ruler came in the mail. It's used to bind those non 90 degree angles. When I was looking for the jelly roll quilt directions, I ran into a video on binding 120, 135, 60 degree angles. Like various table runners have diamond shapes on each end or a 6 sided shape.
Wed. I made my way to Fountain Hills. Only took about 1/2 hour, but no direct way there. Saw the fountain going off at 11. It sprays every hour for about 15 min. Found the jewelry store. They sell diamonds, AZ peridot, mined here, AZ amethyst (mined at 4 Peaks) and a special garnet. I like bigger stones these days, but they had a giant one! Have no idea what that sold for! Perused the store while they cleaned my rings and bracelet. She said I have a loose stone in the bracelet. Planning to have that and my amethyst ring checked out this summer at Park City Jewelers while I'm in Salt Lake taking care of Peggy after she has knee surgery to fix the knee replacement she had almost 2 years ago. I think we need to bring her to WI to have her knee fixed! I did find a lovely little amethyst ring that fit on my finger. To avoid sales tax, she's shipping it home after I get back. She offered I could wear it and drop it off before I left town and then she would ship it. It's gorgeous, but I'll wait. Stopped at JoAnn's and picked up more batting and backing for 2 more table runners. Early Wed evening, Bob the Builder stopped by looking for Sharon & Larry. They were gone for a few days. He had a prospect to look at the remodeled park model they were renting. He added a very nice AZ room, entry and 3/4 bath to an older park model. I said I could email them. He wanted to talk with them before he showed the unit. Later I had an email back. Larry was talking to him. Thurs. morning I stopped by Bob's place=at the end of my street. After all that, the people backed out at coming to see the unit Wed night as they were leaving Thurs. morning. Bob's wife Dee is a seamstress, also. She embellishes recycled blue jean jackets. She also did the decorating at the remodeled park model. Looks really great-brown and teal accents. She has a real eye for it. Thurs I was determined (but not enough yet) to get these table runners done. So, I made the 4th one from the leftovers. I should still have just enough for binding for all of them. Thurs late afternoon I went to see The Decendents. Really liked it. At the $4 movie place we found! Came out and the moon was up and just glowing while it was still light out! I knew there was a food court at the mall and sure enough-with a Paradise Bakery! Bought a sandwich to take home.
Friday morning the pool was really warm again. Had coffee with Sharon & Larry. They were back from their little mini trip to Sierra Vista for some bird watching. I checked the lunch menu to see what was on it. Last day for lunch. Everything is $2. Said I'd take them out for lunch today! We met up again at 11:30. We walked right up to the window to order. Once inside, there were about half dozen tables of people. We kept watching-there was a line up at the window from 11:30 til after 12. Guess the deals brought everyone out for lunch! I didn't know there were that many people left in the park. Saw some for the first time, even! When we left, there was only 3 choices left on the board. Guess we sure helped clean out the kitchen. It sure would be nice if they made coffee in the morning yet next week! No sewing Friday. Kept avoiding it. Went back to Cost Cutters. Had a different gal who wasn't afraid to cut hair! Got it short now! Will have to call home and make my next appointment now. Made a stop at Target. Needed a few items.
Time to sweep up around here again. Taking the truck in for oil change so it's ready to head home next weekend. Then I have to get serious about these table runners and get them bound! Tired of looking at them. That's why I don't mass produce anything. The Woodshop has their last burger night tonight. Always good. Spending Easter with Karen & Palmer, their son Jim and his family and Bernie and Becky. Should be another crazy fun filled day!

Saturday was another warm one. close to 90. I think it was about 65 when I went to the pool! Did a little pick up/sweep up around here again. Washed the "kitty" towels protecting the chairs-not so much protecting the chairs as less clean up when I leave! Washed bedding, too. Exciting life, right? Back to figuring on the tractors. Decreased the size of the little squares and increased the size of the background half-square triangles. It worked! Finished stitching one together and then changed clothes to meet up with Karen & Palmer, his brother and sister in law-Bernie and Becky and some friends of theirs-Gabe & Donna from North Dakota when they lived there. We met at the American Legion Hall in Apache Jct. You need to be a member to get in-Donna had her brother's card I think. Anyway, we didn't get carded. Good thing I got there the same time as Karen-don't think they would've let me in the wander around. Bar and eating area was smoky, but the back dining room is smoke free. Broasted chicken is the thing to eat there. We barely sent in our order and she was back with plates of food! Had a nice visit with new and old friends. I was planning to go see a movie, but decided that group would be more fun and it included food!
Met Karen and Palmer for breakfast at Crackers & Co. My neighbors from Green Bay recommended that the first day we arrived. They were right. I had the cinnamon bread french toast, bacon and scrambled eggs. It looked scrumptious when Lois and I stopped on the way to the airport whenever it was that she left! And it was scrumptious. I left 1/2 piece behind for the starving children in the world. Karen and I headed off to the Tempe Art Festival. Lots of nice pieces. Left them behind, tho. Bought some homemade doggie treats for a few favorite doggies at home-My Molly, Elsie and Fisher! I hope they don't mind eating a saguaro cactus!
Back to Karen's by 2:30. Bernie was there helping Palmer install the microwave. They're so excited! Now they can have popcorn. Cheese and crackers and a cold pepsi. Karen whipped up some enchilladas and put in the oven. Looked over some southwest outdoor decorating magazines. They need to do some landscaping and getting ideas yet. Cleaned up dishes and headed home. Time to watch the Country Music awards. I ended up switching between that and Desperate Housewives. Took a short nap before Army Wives was on. Last season for both those shows. What will I watch on Sunday nights?
Monday morning was low 50's and a light wind. The pool wasn't as warm as usual....and the wind blowing made for a cool pool time! If you kept your shoulders under, you were ok! Had to catch up with Sharon & Larry again-hadn't had coffee with them for a couple days! They were going to Costco again, but I declined. Went back to the Patio Grill for lunch. This is the last week they're open. Open faced roast pork sandwich, mashed pot and gravy with corn on the side. Yum Yum. Stopped to visit a couple people hanging out by the pool. Lots of room there now that lots of folks have headed home. The volleyball players took the day off. They thought the water was too cold! Well, you should've been in there at 8 then! Headed home again. Finished up another table runner. I think I have enough leftovers to make a 4th one. Might change it up a bit. I have 2 runners ready to quilt. And, they've been Socks approved. Need more batting and backing for a 3rd & 4th one. Maybe today.
Went to the pool this morning. The ladies were standing around-with robes on-looking at the pool. They declared it too cold with the slight wind this morning. They had stuck their feet in and declared it closed for class. First time in the amount of times I've been here. Maybe the volleyball folks won't be playing today either. Finally meeting up with Christy (Racine) for lunch today. She's been busy at her park and has had lots of company. Will run some errands while I'm out and about (with Canadian accent). Taking a field trip to Fountain Hills tomorrow. There's a jewelry store there with 4 Peaks Amethyst! Have to check that out!

Sit and have coffee with Sharon & Larry til 10:30; sometimes until 11 before we all get moving. That's what its all about! The number of pool ladies is dwindling, too. Everyone was worried on Tuesday morning, since Blanche didn't show up. Neither she or her husband were there. Wed. afternoon when I was in the pool, I saw a couple pool ladies, but they didn't go on Wed. morning so I still didn't know anything about Blanche. She never misses. Luckily, she was there on Thursday morning. Something she'd eaten didn't agree with her so she decided to stay home. Blanche is in charge of the DVD player when Shirley is gone. She should be back early next week.
Took out the backings I bought for the jelly roll quilts. I used the quilt app on my phone to figure yardage. It overestimates. I have way more than I needed. At least I know the backs will be big enough for my quilter. She emailed that another quilt I dropped off before I left that the back wasn't big enough. Not sure what I did. I know there's more of that fabric at home. Told them to put it on hold for now. Got the backs ready and squared off the jelly roll quilts. Ready to mail.
Pulled out some Farmall/tractor fabrics I bought last year in Iowa on the way down. The plan is for table runners. When Lois and I were shop-hopping, I bought 2 pieces of plain fabrics to go with them. I'm fussy cutting the center pieces-which is larger than the pattern. Makes no difference for the center squares, really. I adjusted the 2 smaller squares and guessed how big to make the half square-triangles. It worked out and won't be seen by a trotting horse....but it doens't quite line up right. It's ok for the first one. I'm making some adjustments on the next ones. Making multiples-like 3 as in 3 brothers. No, they don't have to wait til October to get them!
Fri I finished up some laundry I started on Thursday. Put on some better duds and headed out on some errands. Bernina store is close by for thread. The post office is across the street to ship off the jelly roll quilts. Don't want my quilters sitting idle in my absence! Then to Red Robin for lunch-wanted fish. Stopped at Fry's for gas. I haven't filled the tank in a while. Lois bought a tank before she left and Marla bought a tank. With groceries bought, my discount at the pump was 20 cents a gallon. $3.69 then. I should still have some points left to fill up again before I leave. Picked up a few groceries and back home for Days. Turned on the air. Had to shut the vent in the AZ room, as it was blowing right at me. Took a nap in the chair. Back to figuri
ng/scheming on the table runners.
Time Warner Cable doesn't know what they're doing! But, then, we all know that! I signed up for seasonal hold since I'm gone more than 60 days. I asked if call forwarding would work on my phone while gone. I was told no. You need to sign up for voice mail so you can check for messages while you're gone. Ok, add the $4/month. Before we left, I called the home phone and got my own answering machine, even tho I'd set up the voice mail message. Hmmm, called them. Unplug your answering machine, then there voice mail will pick up. Mission accomplished. I was ok with getting a full bill to pay ahead for March and April. But, when I got a full bill for May, I sent them a nasty gram. I'd called a month ago to see when the hold would be on my account. Oh, we get so many requests for seasonal hold, it takes time for the billing to catch up. It's noted on your account for 2/11-4/18. In my nasty gram I remimded them it took them no time to add the $4/mo for voicemail, so why couldn't they make the hold adjustments at the same time. And now it's another month later. Suggested they take care of it immediately. Low and behold the next day I got an email saying it was all taken care of. Thank you. Since they made those changes, the voice mail doesn't work. Emailed them again. Your account is on seasonal hold, please call. According to the last person I talked to, no, voice mail doesn't work while on seasonal hold!! Then why did your folks suggest I get it? The guy could tell I was disgusted-but laughing thru it at this point. I told him to remove the voicemail-since it's of no value to me. Was there anything else he could do since this had been a "comedy of errors" as he put it. Sure, make sure I get a good discount to keep me as a customer when my contract comes due in May. We'll see what happens then!
It's just so annoying. I know my friends/family know how to get in touch with me.

Gee, the time gets away from me-I should sit down and jot off a few lines when I think of it-not try to recreate it all later! Thanks, Cindy for comments now and then. At least you're reading this now and then, too!
Sunday was a glorious day. Not too hot but lots of sun. Made a nice breakfast and then goofed around for a while wondering what to do. Got the table totally cleaned off and brought out Renee's quilt again. It was down to the last round of border. When you're working with total size of 112", it takes a while to cut, sew border length together and then pin and sew it onto the quilt. I have a wooden snack table that's been covered to use as a pressing area. Set that back up next to the sewing machine, so the weight of the quilt layed on that. worked out good. Took a couple final pictures of the final borders-on a double bed....without a cat on it, too. This is a pic of the cover of the pattern used to make Renee's quilt. Sent off pics to a few people-I have to get some "atta-girls" from someone. Sent off pics to my quilters, too. Told them to start thinking of quilt designs for it. Took a walk around the park. Quite a few lots already have their chains across the driveway. I'm sure there'll be a mass exodus this weekend.
Monday was pool day again. yep, shower and coffee, too. Larry and Sharon invited me along on a field trip to Costco! They love Costco and plan their stops down from Canada around Costco's. They buy their gas all the time. Picked me up around 11:30. Seems nicer/cleaner than Sam's for some reason. Interesting buys. Enjoyed some samples around the store, too. Found some items I could use-once I get home. Might have to beg a membership in trade for boat storage this year-they have business membership-up to 6 for the same cost as 2 individuals at the same address-you know who you are! Phone calls with Ken and with Lois in the afternoon. Big brother, Dale called to tell me his great news-tumors are shrinking! New hip is working good, too! Had to watch Dancing with the Stars again-keep voting for Donald. I knew Martina was going home-that outfit was hideous on her!
Tuesday's plan was to pick up Marie and take her into Scottsdale to see Fred. She's been home a few days and did some of her routine things-pool and golf. The hospital scheduled him for time in the pressure chamber to speed along the healing/reduce swelling. That was for 1-3:30, so she decided not to go. Who knows yet when they'll actually do the surgery. Worked on the checkbook-gee, I'm not shopping much lately....still have $$ left. Will need it to buy gas to get home! Not sure what it is about my soap opera-I take naps at home when its over and do the same here. Maybe it's the content! Mustered up some energie to get some new fingernails and get the toes done again. Marie called again to tell me they had scheduled time for surgery on Wed, Thurs, Fri, depending on when the swelling was down enough. yes, I'll be available to take you there.
Wed: 6:00 a.m. Fred called Marie-they're doing surgery this morning. She called me shortly after that. I was up and ready to go and at her place by 7:15. He knew we wouldn't be there before he went into surgery. Well, got a taste for rush hour traffic here-YUCK! Glad I don't have to do it everyday! Drivers here seem a bit nicer about letting you merge in. Slowdown on the 202 to merge with the 101. We got to the surgery waiting area before 8:30. Interesting system. They give you a number (partial Last name, part of the birthday, part of first name). You use that ID to watch on the TV screen. It tells where the patient is-pre-op; surgery; recovery. I took a book along-finally did some reading! Haven't been into reading this trip for whatever reason. After 3 1/2 hours in surgery, Marie asked more questions. Surgery was scheduled for 4 hours. Between 11:30/11:45 the surgeon came to talk to Marie. It was tricky, but they got it back into place. Another hour/hour and half in recovery. We went to lunch at the cafeteria. She made some phone calls. I went to fetch her overn
ite bag and other things in the truck. We went up to his room and waited there on the floor for him to return. After he was back and settled in-barely knew Marie was there-I left. Her nephew's wife would be over after 4 to pick her up. Since I was in Scottsdale, it was only 10 minutes north to the Fresh Produce store. Managed to find some pieces to add to the wardrobe. For some reason didn't bring along enough sleeveless shirts. Found one on sale! Back home-didn't want to be in rush hour again! Went to the pool to cool off. Then I was really tired! Took a long nap in the chair before I went to bed!
This pictue is of my dual remote (non) controls for the TV. They sure like being up here. You never know what channel will come next nor the volume!

Oh, my, Thursday was a long day! After a 3:30 am alarm, 5:30 am phone call; 7:00 am alarm. Tried to take a nap, but never fell asleep. Might as well get up! Didn't really accomplish much for the day. Over coffee, I was complaining the TV guide didn't match much on the TV here. (Wasn't thinking the Park has it's own TV system-figured they'd just follow everybody else). Larry told me about a free website for local TV guides. Just plunk in the area code, then pick the provider. http://tvlistings.zap2it.com/tvlistings/ZCGrid.do?fromTimeInMillis=1332529200000 Works good! So, use this wherever your travels may take you. The TV system here won't be in service at the end of the year. All the cables, etc, are buried underground and I guess it's hard to find parts-it's only 25 years old! Dish and local cable providers are busy in the park selling their wares. Will be interesting to see what I might get next year! Talked to big brother. He's doing good after his hip replacement almost 2 wks ago.
Slept good Thursday night. It was 58 at 7:30am on Friday. Great pool day! There were 25 ladies in the pool-and 1 brave man who was trying to get everything in before he left later that morning. Lois, from Eau Claire who lives on this street was leaving at noon. A couple weeks earlier than she really wanted to, but she had children in and out of town and a son willing and able to drive home with her. Enjoyed the sunshine and weather and coffee with Larry & Sharon til after 11! After the patio grill closes, they'll have to bring me a cup of coffee when they come over-or I'll go to their patio for coffee after the pool. Had some lunch when I came home from the pool-no sense beginning with breakfast! Picked up around here a bit. Took a nap in the chair after Days. Had the windows and doors open in the AZ room hoping to pick up a breeze. None to be found. it was 87 high and 81 in the "tin can". Pulled out the 2nd jelly roll package. The strips were in a nice random order, so sewed them together as they came from the package. I think the repeat will show up in the middle. I haven't figured out where the fabrics end up when it's done. Didn't get the first seam completed. Time to put on some better duds and head to the social hall. Talent show tonight. I had heard last year's was real good. I got there at 6:30 for a 7:00 show. The place was packed! These old people have to get to events early to stake their claim. They party with their friends-snacks and BYOB. The beautification committee was selling ice cream sundaes. Chocolate & strawberries. No canned whip cream for me. People just kept coming. They had to set up more tables/chairs. Gee, didn't they know how many tickets they sold? 11 acts in a little over an hour. It was a fun night. Piano solo, a "reading" which was a poem an old fart wrote about their first winter at the park-it was good-hope he let's them publish it sometime. An accordian/yodel performance. A number of women singing with karaoke as the background. The Glory Gals sang. They're a small group from the choir. A husband/wife team as Minnie Pearl and cousin Tim. A really big guy who I've not seen around the park. He did a rendition of Hello Mother, Hello Father. He changed it to Hello Children, it's your fatha, here I am at Camp Mana. Please go home....he was good. We all got a chance to vote. The winners-$75, $50, $25 gift certificates will be announced at Wed. coffee. I might have to forgo the pool to go to the last coffee/donut session of the season. I thought the coffee hour was only for residents, but was told it's open to all.
Saturday was another wonderful pool day. Stayed in the water later, since the "jug ladies" don't meet on Saturday. No coffee on Sat or Sun, either. Stopped by the mailbox and my absentee ballot was there. Had some coffee/toast and took my completed ballot across the street where the neighbors were out. Needed a witness to my signature. Back to the mailbox with it. Larry & Sharon weren't around the pool, so headed off in their direction. They were home, so got the tour of the newly remodeled unit they're renting. It was an oldy moldy park model. A whole new entry and AZ room were added to it. Really decorated nicely-browns and turquoise. It's for sale-don't know the price-so I'm sure that's why it's decorated nicely! Not sure they would leave it like that for full time renters! Not compared to the sparse-ness around here! The AZ room is quite large and around the corner by the back door is a full size laundry behind doors and another bathroom. They can now build larger AZ rooms here at the park. Really fills up the lots-not much space leftover and the parking spaces are quite small, too. Would be a nice investment for someone who lives here longer than 1-2 months. Visited a little while and saw a couple pics of their grandson, Ben, who will be getting a new sibling sometime this year. She just recently found out the donor worked! Back home-phone message from Marie. I had called her earlier to see how Fred was doing. He fell from the roof of a park model (not theirs) at their park. Had been on the roof the day before to clean it and was going up a week ago Thursday to sealcoat the roof. When he swung his second foot to the roof, it got caught in the ladder rung and down he went. His foot was still on the ladder and that's what snapped his ankle. The owner of the unit is a nurse and helped him right away til the squad came for him. Took him to a local hospital with a bone Dr. He later decided he didn't want to touch it-6broken bones. Took almost all day to find a place that would take him/his insurance. A hospital in Scottsdale was the winner. They temporarily set it and have some stabilizing rods holding it in place until the swelling goes down to have surgery. Now it might be Mon-Wed this week. Just depends. Marie has a nephew/family in Scottsdale, so she's been staying there. People from her park have been taking her over and back when she wanted to come home. I went to pick her up, visit with Fred-who's in pretty good spirits considering all the time he's spent on his back! Came back to her park, got her mail, visited a while and went to supper. Told her to call me again if she needed a ride. Stopped for some groceries on the way home.
Not sure what's in store for today. 64 at 7:30 this morning. 84 high and windy today.
Oh, gee, I see it's cooled off and back to spring weather at home!

OnThe Go!
Boy, Mom and Marla sure didn't stay home much this week! We didn't get much time to sit in their laps! Sunday it started raining hard in the night. There were more showers throughout the day. There was even snow on Superstition Mtns! Mom and Marla had lunch at the Landmark Restaurant. They said it was real yummy. Mom had beef stroganoff and Marla had tenderloin tips with mushrooms and onions. She couldn't eat all of hers. She had her leftovers for supper that night. They brought home a piece of raspberry cheesecake, too. They went to see a play called Miss Abigail's Guide to Dating, Mating and Marriage. Abigail and her helper, Paco were the only 2 people in the play. Paco was the real star. He secretly longed for Miss A as he affectionately called her. She sure quoted a lot of "experts" on the subjects from the 60's. The play also had some audience participation on stage. They were good sports. The play was ok, but Mom an
d Marla expected it to be much funnier than it was.
Monday it was in the low 40's and mom figured the pool would really be cool, so they slept in. After getting it together, they went on some errands. Mom took Lois' open toe quilting foot to the JoAnn store where they have a Viking dealer. Lois had talked with her, that her foot had broken. The nice lady there said she would replace it for her. Lois sent it to mom. Mom got it replaced for her. Then they went to the Scrapbooking store. Mom had found a store-made jelly roll with some old fashioned prints earlier when out quilt shop hopping with Lois and her friends. Mom wanted another jelly roll-she got a 15% off coupon at the AZ quilt show. There was only one jelly roll left. The rest of the fabrics were now on the 1/2 off table! Mom got enough pieces for 4 different fabrics to make the backs for these 2 quilts. That's what quilting is about-using what you have available. Then they went to lunch at Tia Rosa's. They said it was real yummy. They had margarita's for lunch, too. Marla was really glad mom was driving. Guess she caught a buzz from it! After they watched Days, they went to Cost Cutters so Marla could get her hair cut. She wanted something different, but didn't know what. Mom talked her into getting the back cut shorter. Marla's not too sure about it, but as they say, a bad haircut only lasts 4 weeks. Mom thinks it looks real nice and taught her how to style it the next morning.
Tuesday Mom was chicken to go to the pool-she didn't think the water would be warmed up again yet. They went to breakfast at the patio grill. Then they looked around the Marketplace (vendors come in-last one of the season). Mom bought a red hat and a little wallet for Marla for her birthday. (not til May, but now Mom won't have to wrap it-and Marla can take it home with her and start using them). Then they ran into Larry and Sharon and sat out in the sun chatting for a while. Mom started working on that jelly roll quilt. It took her 1/2 hour to sew all the strips into 1 continuous strip. Then she sewed the beginning of the strip to the end of the strip. That seam took a long time to do. Then she cut that end in half and brought the end of the strip up to the front and started that seam. She did that for 5 times and came up with a 48 X 60 size lap quilt! It took her just over an hour sto sew it together. Somebody in the video on how to make this quilt sewed hers in 35 min. Mom doesn't know how that lady did that! She had fabric to make another. Will be interesting how different they look. Her jelly roll had duplicate fabrics in it. a "real" jelly roll has 42 different fabrics in it. Mom started the grill and made pork chops again. Marla cooked some potatoes and heated up a bag of mixed vegs. They had a really good supper. Then they left us-again. Now they went to see the Duttons http://www.theduttons.com/. It's a family of musicians that have their own theatre in Branson (no the tornadoes didn't do any damage) and then they play in Mesa during the winter months. Mom and Marla had a good time at the show.
Wednesday morning, mom went back to the pool. The water was warm and about 15 ladies were there. After mom got it together, they headed south to Queen Creek to visit the Olive Mill. Mom was there 2 years ago with Murphy. She didn't take the tour, but they did on this trip. It was very interesting. The tour guide did a good job explaining about the growth of the olive trees and how they harvest the olives. Then they process them. Usually mid Oct to early Dec. They learned that Extra Virgin Olive Oil should have on the label first, fresh, or cold pressed olive oil. They had lunch there. Mom bought some tapenades. They were out of strawberry balsamic vinegar. She might have to go back next week, or take Renee there when she comes. Mom made salmon on the grill. Marla warmed up the left over potatoes and veggies. Mom cleaned up, while Marla had to pack.
3:30 AM the alarm went off. Mom dropped off Marla at the airport about 4:15-her flight was at 6:15 or so back to Appleton. Mom set her alarm again for 7. She took care of the garbage and took her swim bag with her to the patio grill. She was so looking forward to having a belgian waffle. NO WAFFLES today. Darn! I guess the kitchen is running low on supplies and not ordering anymore. (they were really out of strawberries-don't know why they still couldn't make waffles). I heard an order come back to the kitchen-I ordered the "special"; you gave me pancakes. The cook looked confused. Then the lady at the window who takes your order and money turned and told him the "special" was french toast today. That's what they get for changing it!
Mom will probably take a nap today.

Marla's Here!
Wednesday was pool time. Starting to tan up now. Pool time is about the only time I've been in the sun. Been on a quest to get this quilt top made. Took most of Wed. to get the 2 pieced borders together to finish the stars off that connect each corner of the log cabin blocks. Maybe I'll take a picture of the cover of the book, so you can see what it looks like. By 9:00p.m. I had those borders on and one plain bor der done. I just couldn't do anymore that day. Folded it up and cleared off the table of sewing supplies. Thursday was pool time again. Then cleaning. De-cat-haired the chairs around here and put down some towels so I don't have to spend any time on that when it's time to leave! Swept up, mopped up; made the place presentable. Had some lunch and checked on Marla's flight. Coming in 15 min earlier tha
n I had expected. Guess I'd better get to the airport! She flew Alegiant Air from Appleton and came into a smaller airport out here near Mesa. Was a quick little trip down there-only about 15 min. 1/2 hour free parking so went in to find her. Waited for her bag that she carried on, but they stowed it away, anyway. She was hungry, so a quick stop at Subway. Stopped at the grocery store. Getting pretty low on supplies around here again. Home to relax a while. Warmed up some leftovers frozen from last week and some fresh green beans. Off to the social hall for a concert by These Three Tenors-not to be confused with THE Three Tenors. 3 men from Long Island who either sang on broadway or opera. GREAT voices. Nice variety of songs, as well. About a 90 minute show. The one guy had such a presence just the way he stood and puffed his chest, you just knew he was the opera singer. They've been together 17 years.
Friday was pool day. My Canadian friends, Larry & Sharon have also arrived. It was so good to turn around in the pool and see them sitting in the sun, drinking coffee. Marla came to the patio, too. So, after introductions we chatted and enjoyed the sun and each other. Home to finish getting ready for the day. Off to get gas and head out to Saguaro Lake for lunch and the 90 minute lake cruise on the Desert Belle. Wonderful little cruise. I like it better than the Dolly Steamboat on Canyon Lake (I've now taken 3 times). So much more variety to see-canyon walls, marsh areas, interesting formations, The Four Peaks and a few wakeboarders along the way. Very nice afternoon. Home again. Still had leftovers from Thursday night to finish off.
Saturday I headed to the pool. Weather is changing for the weekend. We could watch the clouds start coming in and the wind starting to pick up. Gets a little cool coming out of the pool with the wind picking up. Some take a quick dip in the hot tub to make it to the locker room. Sometimes I do; most times I don't. My new shoes-to replace the "one" I lost-but eventually found-finally arrived today. Called Karen (& Palmer) to see what they're up to. They were out rummage sale shopping. No trinkets for them today. They came by shortly after 1 to pick us up to head out to Filly's. Little country western bar headed out toward Goldfield and the Ghost Town-also on the way to Tortilla Flats. Was windy and dust blowing around by then. They said Saturday from 1-5 was Sr. Citizen happy hours. Band usually plays outside, but inside due to weather we guessed. The place was packed. We sat outside anyway. Cold beer tasted pretty darn good! Had some food and hung out til after 4:00. Back home again for a while. Went to Redbox to find a movie-Bridesmaids and to Fresh & Easy for water they have on sale right now. Popped in the movie. Took an intermission to make some sandwiches and watched the rest of it. Then some channel surfing. Marla's clock is all mixed up. She hadn't adjusted to Daylight Savings Time and now add another hour difference to it. AZ doesn't change time, so now I'm 2 hours different from home.
Today's adventure will be lunch at the Landmark Restaurant and then a play at the Mesa Arts Center. Miss Abigail's Advice on Dating, Mating, Marriage. It's supposed to a laugh a minute!

Catch up time
Saturday was a great day in the pool. Wasn't too hot, so just right for the tractor pull in Apache Jct. Sun was out and 30 sunscreen did the trick. Was there from about 11:30-3. Could tell I had enough sun-had a headache. I'm sure you got bored watching all the tractor pictures....but, it was fun. Came home and put my feet up for a while. Went to the Woodshop Burger fry at the resort. I'd had a buffalo burger at the tractor pull. Not too excited about them.. Pretty dry! Took a nap in the chair before I went to bed - too much fresh air! Sunday I was able to sew again. Finished putting blocks of 4 together. Newspaper and a few groceries. Taking veggies to the block party at 3:30. Was nice to see the people who live along this street. Nice street this year. Not much traffic. Had entertainment-couple 3 guys play guitar and banjo and sing together. Also some karaoke later. One guy does a meal Willie Nelson. Off to Fred & Marie's resort. She's in the choir there and they had their last concert. They had 4 different directors that night. All former music teachers. They all had their own style. The one guy thats stepping down used to be Ann Curry's music teacher! Was a good little concert. Even had a small Dixie band during the middle of the concert. Ended with a Disney montage of songs. The choir was having a get together afterwards, so I headed on home.
Monday was pool time again. Back to sewing. Started putting the big 4 patch blocks together. I can't show you, since Renee & Craig have to wait until October to get it. Then I'll post pics on FB. Made a haircolor/cut appointment with Cost Cutters. The beauty school I went to last year had over a 2 week wait. I wouldn't have made it that long. Color looks good-cut is just ok-had a hard time convincing to keep going shorter. Oh, well, in 4 weeks, I can do it again!
Tuesday by noon I had all the 4 patches together. The quilt top itself is done. Now I have 2 more rows of pieced borders/stars and then 2 more plain borders. All the 2" squares are sewn. The pieces are ready to be sewn into the 2 pieced borders. I'll get that done tomorrow. Maybe even one of the plain borders. Thursday Marla comes in the afternoon. I'll need to sweep up around here and get rid of some cat hair on the chairs!

Sewing Sewing
Wednesday I skipped the pool-cool and windy sounds like a bad combo! Picked up Vi at 11 and we went to Tia Rosa's for lunch. GREAT Mexican restaurant. Great atmosphere, too. Good food! They don't serve warm bean dip with their chips, tho. Been working on Renee's quilt. Have 36 log cabin blocks made. Also 60 lattice strips (with 240 squares attached) to join the blocks together. Joined 4 blocks together with the lattice strips-1 each of greens in the middle and 1 of blues in the middle. Looking good! Can't share any pictures here, as Renee & Craig have to wait til October to get it. Darn! the patterns is Star Log Cabin by Eleanor Burns if you want to look it up.
Thursday I went back to the pool. Ran some errands. Now have 7 of 9 four patch blocks together. TV at night is so annoying right now. Re-runs-never know when they'll air a new show. On some of my walks around the park, I've noticed quite a few units for sale. Went by last year's location. They added a sun screen to the open wall of the carport. The old guy from WI that lived next door is back. His unit is still for sale. I have some neighbors kitty corner from me from Green Bay-Jerry & Sue Krueger. Also on my street is Lois Thalacker from Eau Claire. Should meet more folks on Sunday late afternoon for the Block Party-a real block party-no quilting! Went by the unit my Canadian friends will be renting next week! WOW, guess you need to be Canadian to get the good units! It's been completely remodeled inside and out! Not sure how old a unit it was to begin with. I thought a whole new park model/AZ room had been installed. Open House tomorrow from 1-3. I'll be gone then. Will have to wait til Larry & Sharon get here next week to see it.
Pool this morning. AZ quilt show from 10:30-2. Was really crowded when I got there. Moved to a different room to avoid the crowds. All the vendors were in the same area this year. Looked at quilts. Ran into Christy (Racine quilter). She didn't enter any quilts this year. She was working-white glove lady to show you quilts up close. Made the rounds and photos. Then went outside for lunch. Back in and visit the vendors. Bought some patterns-they're always easy to get home! Bought 2 small kits. Another Kokopelli and a cactus one.
Busy weekend planned!

Sully here. Mom ran into Kay (Texas-husband Ray, sister in law Faye) on Saturday at the arts & craft fair at the resort. They just got here about the same time we did. Ray fell off a ladder and broke his neck-surgery-recovery. She has been sick, also, so not at the pool. Mom was going to look her up later on Saturday-but finally saw her.
Mom went back to the pool on Monday. Did some laundry. I decided to help her with her sewing. I had to get a first hand view of the situation. Socks wasn't much help-just sat in the sun and napped. Mom squared up her log cabin blocks. Not much to trim from them. She did a good job keeping them square while making them. She is working on the lattice pieces that join the 36 log cabin blocks together. There are 60 pieces, with four 2" squares sewn onto each end. She's almost done with that
process.
Tuesday Mom went to the pool again. She made a lunch date with Vi from MI to go to Tia Rose's on Wednesday. Vi says it the best Mexican place she knows of. She's only been there once for lunch since she arrived last fall, so she's ready to go again. It was low 80's Tuesday and the wind came up in the afternoon. Mom bought some tickets for her and Marla next Thursday night to hear These Three Tenors who will be performing at the resort. She also bought tickets to see Miss Abigails Guide to Dating. That's supposed to be hilarious.
Socks and I are really glad Mom brought us along with her this year. We know Clyde misses us, tho. He has a new brother, Moose, to play with now. We were scared a few nights in the hotels along the way out. So many noises we aren't used to. We've really settled into life here. We sit in the windows and watch the b
irds. We sit by the screen doors and watch what's going on outside. Sometimes the golf carts going by scare us and we run away and hide for a while. Then we're back out again.

Carriage Manor Days
Friday afternoon I connected with Marie. People have been sick at their park, too. Also stomach flu is going around. I'll stay away for a while! Saturday was the Carriage Manor parade. Western theme this year. Some good looking floats (ontop of golf carts). Took my chair and went around the corner to the next street over to enjoy the sunshine. Back home and started on Renee/Craig's quilt. Should have taken a picture of all the strips that were cut. But, I wasn't thinking! By the end of the day, I had 2 complete rows done for the 36 log cabin blocks that make up the quilt. It's a pattern she picked out by Eleanor Burns-Star Log Cabin Quilt. Called Barb in the afternoon to see how the snow and cold was back home. Also went for a nice walk later in the afternoon. Feeling better-can smell the orange
blossoms again. Made a nice dinner of grilled pork chops and fresh green beans. Yum.
Sunday slept in and made a nice omlette for breakfast. Back to sewing for a while. Put on another round of greens. Off to get the paper and read that out on the deck. Beautiful day. Went to the pool later on in the afternoon. It was still crowded there, but got a chair. Finished up the last round of blues. The blocks are now complete. Need to square them up for the next steps.

Lois has left ;-(
Wednesday morning Lois was packing to see how much she wanted/needed to ship home with her quilts. Mary & Sherron showed up about 10:30. Off to Fed Ex for Lois. Then some quilt shop-hopping. Went to visit stores we didn't stop at last week, but a duplicate of The Three Dudes. No inspection yet, so they still hadn't moved into their new space. Found a really neat store that had fun fabrics-not your usuals-and scrapbooking supplies up the ying yang. Made our way to Chandler old town area for lunch at Kokopelli Bistro. Good thing it was a late lunch. Think the cook was sleeping on the job. Sure took a long time for a couple sandwiches, sliders and a salad! Was good, tho. Couple more stops. Some shops are having 29% off for Leap Day. Back to our house for a 2nd bottle of wine. Good Bye's with Mary & Sherron.
Had breakfast out on Thursday on our way to the airport. Crackers & Co. Only open for breakfast and lunch. Worth another trip! Came back and started some laundry-bedding and towels. Finally heard back from NB store online. They can't get the shoes I ordered last Monday. The emails were not getting thru to me. I'll have 30% off next order, tho. Called my Milwaukee store when I always get them. YES, they have a pair-will send to me! Should have called them in the first place! Decided to run the dust mop around the place. Bumped into something under the bed-the lost SHOE has been found! I had even gotten on the floor to look under the bed earlier-but never saw it. Oh, well, now I"ll have a new pair coming as well. Shoe hoarding! Still feeling sub-par. Think it's now turned to just a cold.
No pool time for a week now. Been sick/been cold out. Warming up to 74 today and 80's next couple of days. Time to get in the sun and bake it out of me. Ran some errands to Big Lots and stopped in next door at Napa Auto to see Palmer. Karen had just left to get him a sandwich since he was staying later than planned. Karen found me at Big Lots and we chatted for a while. Their daughter/son in law are there yet thru the weekend. We'll get in touch this next week for more fun.

Socks Approved
Mom was feeling better on Monday. She picked up around the house-company is coming this afternoon. I hear Sherron is a cat person. Someone new to check out, rub up against and get some pets from. I've been testing the quilt mom has been working on. Monday she finally put the binding on, but doesn't have it all sewn down yet. I can't understand why she can't get this project finished! Lois put together a batik coffee print table runner together today. Mary & Sherron came to visit. Show and tell and a bottle of wine-fruit of the vine. Went to Organ Stop Pizza after 7. Still a crowd, but there was seating. Mom said it was a different organist than she heard last year. The requests make up the play list, so she heard many new songs fro
m last year's visit. We closed the place at 9!
Tuesday, Mom & Lois picked up Mary & Sherron and they went to the Musical Instrument Museum on the north side of town. They were overwhelmed! So many countries, so many instruments, samples of the regional music. http://www.theMIM.org is the website. You get a headset with admission. As you visit each exhibit, it magically plays music samples.
They were tired and didn't even see/do it all. It does deserve a second visit to take it all in.
Late lunch/early dinner at The Elephant Bar. Rush hour traffic was avoided by heading east toward Fountain City and then back down into town. Mom & Lois finally got home about 6:30. We needed some pets again!

Botanical Jazz
Saturday I felt somewhat human/humane again. yeah for drugs! Time to get out of the house today. Went out on a quilt shop hop on this side of town. Started with the Three Dudes. They've been open 3 years and have already expanded. A few pieces and a bali pop and a free pattern were placed into a purple shopping bag-my kind of store. Free water, iced tea and fresh cookies to share, too. Off to Zoe's Trunk, 35th Ave Sew & Vac and Quilter's Ranch finished the tour. A few more pieces of fabric and patterns were added to the purple bag. Lunch at Aloha Kitchen. Home for a nebulizer treatment and off to get new fingernails. I treated Lois to a manicure complete with the new "gelish" polish. It's spozed to last for 3-4 weeks as opposed to a regular manicure that starts coming off in days. So far, so goood! Mary (Flagstaff friend) connected with us. She's bringing along her friend, Sherron (Prescott) are coming down on Monday and will meet up with us Monday afternoon at our park. Sounds like we'll be going to the Organ Pizza place on Monday night. Also planning to head to the Olive Mill one day and the Musical Insturment Museum. Last weekend, Pat & Nancy recommended going there. They went 2 days!
Went to the Desert Botanical Garden today for a jazz concert. The Bad Cactus Brass Band-I call it the Bad Ass Cactus Band! Very enjoyable afternoon! Plan to enjoy the red carpet and the Oscars the rest of the night.

Drug Testing Required?
If I test positive for steroids, do I need to leave a retirement park? What I thought was a cold, turns out to be my usual allergy/asthma crud. Coughed all day yesterday and while out and about, my old inhaler in my pruss didn't do much. Called this morning for prednisone and another one to add to the nebulizer. Can tell its working already.
Yesterday we did our pool thing and consulted the maps once again and headed off to the NW side of Phoenix. Lois was the pilot to meet up with their friends, Jerry & Judy. They were late, so Lois called-they'd forgot but would be there within the hour. Worked for us. Sat in the sun to warm up the sinuses while waiting. Nice lunch at a Mexican restaurant they like. Sent our leftovers home with them. Headed off to Quiltz, Patrick Lose's workshop, Quilting Bee and 35 th St Sew & Vac. Luckily for us they had only moved around the corner into a much roomier location. Lois found a couple pieces of Batik there and I found a panel print I was looking for, but didn't have the amounts of the other coordinates along with me. I had found a place online earlier this year for the coordinates. Guess I can order them now.
No pool time this morning. Just been lazy around the unit today. Laundry day. Lois is working on a letter and resume for a part time job for an organization that she could do from home. Has the draft together and letting it perkolate before she sends it off next week. I picked up Cars 2 from the Redbox while at Walgreens this noon. That's our entertainment for today. Was 77-80 the last 2 days! Felt good on my walk to the mailbox this afternoon.

Happy Campers
Jeffrey came Wednesday afternoon and got us tuned into the internet with no problem! I think he signed in and made some adjustments to the radio booster-which the guy on Friday night didn't do. Nothing wrong with my ethernet connection, either. Go figure! Next year when I sign up, I'm asking directly for Jeffrey. I was kind and sent an email reply how happy I was with Jeffrey's service.
Pool time yesterday. Lois went out on a mission for water, bread, thread and whatever else she wanted. Sent her out with the map and some addresses to find her way around. I did some paperwork, made the binding for the baby quilt and ripped out a little border quilting. After Lois' return, I finished quilting the borders. Then it was time for Days. Who knew that exercising in the pool and eating fresh oranges everyday would give you a good old fashioned head cold! Lois was sharing her drugs with me. Think I feel better today.
We went to a $2 movie house for a late afternoon viewing of Tower Heist. Pretty good. Close by, too. Ruby Tuesday for dinner. Filled up the gas tank so we're ready for our adventure today. Heading to NE Phoenix area to meet up with Jerry & Judy for lunch. Have the quilt stores in the that part of town mapped out, too. They're still in the Garmin from last year.

Settling In
While in the computer lab yesterday, I ordered some new tennis shoes online from New Balance. Had gone to a NB store on Sunday and he said he couldn't get any until 4/20! Guess what, my new ones will be here in 2-7 business days. Not sure where that store gets their shoes. Met up with Karen for the afternoon. Got the tour of their new house. Nice job! Very nice and she's embracing the AZ lifestyle in her decorating-Even Palmer is getting into the act. Had lunch out and then headed back home. Lois did some quilting on a baby quilt for a friend's daughter. I added the borders onto my baby quilt and pieced the back. Her leftover batting is too short. Bought some today and stoppped by the sewing room to lay it out. We were treated a bid rudely there since we aren't sewing club members. Not sure I would ever want to join if that's how they treat their members, too! Well, we found an empty room that had card tables, so we set them up, did our thing, put them back. No one will ever know!
Quilted the main parts of my quilt this afternoon. Ran out of thread while working on the border. Another trip tomorrow! We made a great supper tonight. Steak and fresh asparagus from the market here at the resort today. Not sure what's on tap for tomorrow. Hopefully the Internet guys come again-I got a phone call from them after I'd sent them an email yesterday telling them how unhappy I was with their service. Hopefully, it gets figured out tomorrow!
Thursday we're meeting up with Jim & Lois' friends, Jerry & Judy on the west side of Phoenix.
Good night, all!

Back at the Computer Lab!
By now, you've probably guessed, I'm having internet/ethernet connection problems again. The customer service-or lack there of is incredible with Jabba Communications. Enough of that.
Friday we set up the sewing workshop at the kitchen table. Lois squared up her two quilts that we picked up from the quilty ladies last Friday night before we left. By now, she has put the binding on both of them and ready to pack them up to ship them home. In the meantime, I've cut and pieced a baby quilt for Jon & Karen who are due in June. Maybe get the borders on later today.
Saturday we spent the afternoon with Pat Holt and Nancy Domoracki, former Gateway employees. They're staying at a time share resort just north of us. Gave them a tour around the resort here. Then headed out the Apache Trail. Had a quick bite to eat and then took the Dolly Steamboat tour on Canyon Lake. A good time was had by all. Then up the road a piece to Tortilla Flats. The band was playing their last tune of the day. Had some more grub and then Pat bellied up to the bar on the saddle. Was a pleasant day.
The temp has been on the cool side. Spozed to warm up later this week. That's what I came for.
Sunday we went to the Mesa Market-Swap Meet. Found a couple bargains. Some cheap hangers for the closet and a cheap tongs and spatula for the grill. And a new fleece-blue this time. Then we headed off to Chandler to the New Balance store to find a full pair of shoes-since 1 white one didn't make it here. Thanks to Barb, who went and checked around the house and garage-it's not there either. Who knows? Well, they claim that model isn't available until April 20. I'll be back home by then. Will check online or call the Milwaukee store where I normally shop and have them send me a full pair!
We made it to the pool this morning. My pool ladies are back, as well. Called Karen and meeting her later this morning.

We Made It!
Up and at 'em on Wednesday morning. Checked weather reports-all bad weather gone in our direction. Saw a couple web cams and was looking ok. Headed out by 9. Roads were fine - for a while. Then it turned to frozen snow/icy/somewhat rutty. Lois slowed way down again. That lasted for about 1/2 hour. Crossed the Continental Divide and then the rodes were fine again. There was definitley more snow near Gallup, but roads were clear and dry. Stopped at the AZ welcome center just across the state line. All road reports were good from Holbrook to Mesa! Yeah! Topped off the tank again in Holbrook. Made a quick sandwich stop in Heber. Made a quick quilt shop stop in Payson. Rolled into the resort shortly after 3:30. Got checked in, paid up and found our new home. Took a quick tour around. The unit seems a little wider. Nice sized kitchen table for sewing/cutting. Walk through the bedroom and out the back door, down 3 steps into the AZ room. Nice space. Couple couches and recliner. Also storage room-now the litter room and washer/dryer. This will do just fine! Also have tangelos and grapefruit trees on the lot. Sweet!
Unloaded the truck. I've lost a tennis shoe somewhere/somehow? I was sure it was in my laundry basket, but only 1 there when I unpacked it. Barb/Catherine-if you find it at home on a walk thru, just let me know! We unpacked and were too tired to go grocery shopping. Good to be here!
Thursday morning we went to the Patio Grill for the breakfast special of waffle/strawberries/bacon. Yum! Then off to Christy's resort for a program in their sewing room. That's a large resort and many quilters there. They have some great programs that I've attended in the past. Some members showed their "repurposed" projects they completed this past year. It started with a family of 4-5 quilters who then opened up the contest to others at the resort. They had pictures of what it was or where the fabric came from and what they made of it. Tootie, you could've showed off your many repurposed projects. 2 ladies made the same quilt pattern-1 from scraps and 1 from old shirts she found at Goodwill. Both were very nice. The speaker is from Oregon, WI, originally from Eau Claire. Julie Jenkins. She's a long arm quilter, but also is a vendor/lecturer/teacher for Square in a Square ruler system. Great teaching style. Also had a trunk show of various projects using the ruler to make blocks. She was also having day long workshops on Friday and Saturday at the resort.
Made a tour around the Country Market that is there every Thursday. OK, time to get some groceries. Unpacked and time for a wrap to watch Days. Called the Inet provider again. Got signed in, but when I connect the signal booster, there's no connection. The tech finally showed up after 7-I didn't expect to see him. He says all is well with the signal-something's wrong with my port. I'm in a different location in the resort again, but the wireless signal is much improved over the past. I'll just try this for a while. If it doesn't work, I'll go get a connection port that plugs into the USB port. All you techies out there, let me know what you think!

Change of Plans
Made our way to Albikwerkie and stopped at a couple quilt shops we found last year. Gas and food. Fun spot called Wecks. They're open for breakfast and lunch. 50's/60's decor and lots of movie posters. Good food. Great customer service skills. The manager greeted us as we were led to our table. He also checked on our lunch as he walked by to meet with a newer employee. We commented on his skills to our waitress. She said they all just love him. Was nice to see!
Left there between 2/2:30 to head to Holbrook. Just going out of town the overhead electronic sign said all lanes closed at Gallup. It was 49 degrees....what? We knew there was snow coming, but had no idea why the road would be closed. Lois kept driving; I kept searching the weather channel. Yep, severe weather at the Continental divide. Just east of Grants, NM, you could see a wall of white. Another electronic sign saying all lanes closed just west of Gallup. Decided to get off in Grants and went to the visitor center. He showed us where we were and the reports he was getting. Didn't sound good at all. I-40 was closed due to so many accidents. Travel at your own risk. Snow packed and slippery. Let's just call it a day-a short one-and get a room now. We might not get to Gallup, which was the next area with hotels. We checked in and moved in for the night. Ordered pizza and just watching tv tonight. The Boys are relaxing with Lois' valentine.
