We're All Home

On the road at 11 and high tailed it to the south. Made a stop for gas/sandwich and later a potty stop. Called Laura once on the road-no voice mail-just rang. At the potty stop I did get her voice mail. Got off at Ryan Rd and thought I should just head back south! Gas here is $3.95 and $3.99! Wow-worse than EC-and they're usually higher than here. No snow-it was all melted. Had dry roads all the way home. Neighborhood looks the same. Grass is green. Where are the leaves on the trees? I didn't miss anything by coming hoe 2 weeks later this year. Maybe I should have stayed another 2 weeks! Forecast looks like yuk-but then, all of you have been dealing with this all the time! Yep, still boxelder bugs on the side of the house. The floors aren't as covered as I'd been expecting from the messages from Lois and Marla who've been in the house recently on their travels. Enough, but not as bad as they'd made it sound. Started unloading the truck. Texted Barb to send Molly over. She, Molly and Elsie came over. Ohhh, doggie kisses! I didn't cheat on Molly while I'd been gone. No dog activity at the park. Ok, Butter did sleep with me on Sunday night. Barb helped get the cactus out of the truck. She helped find the best spot for it as I planted it. Still no word from Laura. Sent her a text to see if she was holding the boys for ransom! Might as well empty out the suitcases. I rarely do that when I first get home-takes me a couple days. Had to keep busy til I could fetch the boys. Laura called on her way home from work. I ordered pizza and stopped for a 6 pack to spend some time with them and watch all three yellow boys play with each other. Stopped at a gas station for a gallon of milk-$3.69. guess I haven't been paying any attention to the cost of that, either! Socks had to sit with me and roll around in my lap and did his usual of laying down right under my chin. Sully came to sit a while, too. Tuesday morning, they were both in bed with me when I woke up. Rainy morning. If I stay home today, I won't have to wear my winter coat again! I did have some bread in the freezer, so I could put off grocery shopping for a while. Dinner plans did get postponed a week due to weather. Socks spent a lot of time in my lap. Sully was on his usual perch or on the bed.

We're all home together at last.

Movin' On

Last 400 some miles to Eau Claire today. Thought we could sleep in a bit this morning. I'd had too much caffeine too late in the day and having trouble falling asleep. It was shortly after 7 when the alarm clock started making noise-it wasn't really an alarm, but very annoying. I kept pressing buttons. Thought I had it under control. About 15 min. later-same thing. Turned on the light and moved every switch to off. 15 minutes later-same thing. Guess it's time to get up! Hit the shower and got dressed and headed downstairs for a cup of coffee. The same guy working the desk last night was there again this morning. He needs more training on breakfast, though. I asked him to refill the coffee. By the time I got upstairs, it wasn't all that hot. Brought a couple hard-cooked eggs and 2 muffins. Renee hit the shower for the day. I peeled one of the eggs and the color was not white but a yellow color to the white. I broke the egg apart and it was really green inside. Threw that one in the trash. The other egg was ok. Renee tried one once we got downstairs-hers was the same as my first one. She noticed more eggs in the trash there. Filled up my coffee cup and away we went shortly after 9. Renee motored us from northern MO to Albert Lea, MN. Gassed up there and I said "find the nearest Culvers!". I've been gone 7 weeks and don't remember when I had my last burger. Just had a snack pack. "Katie" scheduled us across southern MN on I-90 and then we took some county roads over to the Mississippi River. Roads I'd not traveled before. Up to Wabasha where the river is really high and some streets had been closed off. Across the river and Renee needed some fresh cheese curds and ice cream in Nelson at the Creamery. Again, I was traveling roads I haven't been on in years. Delivered Renee to Craig and Haley about 4:00. Headed on to Jim & Tootie's. She was working til 5. Met up with Jenny, Will, Megan and John James at Red Robin. Good to see everyone again. Will be back in 2 weeks for Haley's and Weston's confirmation. Brought in some show and tell for Tootie to view. I checked the mileage for the trip so far....still have another 260 or so to go. Get to collect "the boys" tomorrow, too! Missing them. Stay tuned for at least one more post-to make sure I get home, collect the boys and get unloaded. The best will be once the cactus is planted in the yard.

Easier Drive Day

The sunshine was pouring in under the door frame when I woke up today. Like I said, it needs lots of TLC. Went down for breakfast-it was self-serve. Most items were in the fridge and the microwave was next to that. High carb breakfast. The coffee was good, though. Marie called Steve around 9. He was up and at'em but Neil was still in the sack. He'd gone out to see some friends after they got in. Steve was cleaning out Neil's car for him (interpret dad's standards higher than college student). The house has been staged for house hunters. Quite a bit of Miller personality has been put away. Whenever Steve & Neil are at the house, they "live" at the kitchen counter. Had a nice visit with Steve. Can still see his scar from brain surgery. He's back swimming and biking. Not running yet, as he still can't feel the left heel and calf. He doesn't want to do any permanent damage. He had his bike sent out to Napa and his Honda was just picked up by transport earlier this morning. He'll be getting a furnished apt. in Napa, since that's where he'll be working most in the next 6 months. His company prints the labels for the wine and spririts community. It was good to see Neil again, with his big smile. Off to lunch, but had to make a change, since OSU was having a spring game/tailgate party. Went out of town a bit to a BBQ place. Hugs and good-byes and we were off. Driving out 51 we found the bike tribute to Deb. I had to stop. Finally hit the highway today about 2:30. I headed north on I-35 to Wichita and Kansas City. Easy driving today. Didn't have to keep the steering wheel turned 1/4 turn to go straight down the road! Renee was updating my fb page with our location. Renee took over outside of KS City MO. I was trying to make a room reservation online so I could qualify for a $50 gas card. I kept zooming in so I could see what I was doing. Just about done, and I hit enter instead of just moving the cursor. Rats, had to enter it all again. Enter. Dang, I needed to check some check mark I could barely see. Ok, this time it saved the info and I checked the boxes. Now it timed out!!! I had a small meltdown so decided to call the 800 #. Not sure if the reservation had gone through or not. Not sure where the call center was, but it wasn't in MO or WI!. I had an awful time understanding and hearing her. As did she. Renee got the giggles and I couldn't hear nor talk. Ithink the call center was getting tired of me, as well. I looked up at one point and Bethany MO was only about 10 miles away. I was hoping to complete the reservation before we checked in! We both were laughing and hooting about it the rest of the way there. When we checked in, I said, I hope I only have 1 reservation! He had it. Time to drink the last 2 bottles of beer tonight!

More WIND!!

Lost an hour yesterday, but still on AZ time. Will loose another one, soon, too. Then back on CST for the rest of the trip. Heading out toward Stillwater, OK. Time for a pit stop in Amarillo again. But, we made it at another quilt store not far off the hiway. Really nice store. More fabric. Great tip on a place for lunch. Jason's Deli. I thought maybe it was just a local place. NO way... another chain. Has stores in quite a few states. Of course, none in WI. I had a great salad and Renee had a great 1/4 muffaletta with fruit and chips-which she packed up for a snack later. Had a message from Marie-they were already in Stillwater. Holiday Express was full already and they were at Days Inn across the street. Called ahead to make a reservation there. Renee took on the brunt of the driving Friday. The wind was unbelievable! From Amarillo to OK City, we counted 7 semis flipped or still in the ditches/median and 3 5th wheel trailers in the same shape. We guessed most of the trailers were empty, tho, 1 wasn't for sure. She slacked up on the speed to keep control. She found a grain hauling semi that was going good down the road. When she passed one truck, I happened to look over and the left rear wheels were coming off the ground! We stopped for gas in another wide spot on the road. I felt like I was getting sandblasted while I filled gas. It was rough opening doors. I finished the trip into OK City and up 35 toward Stillwater. Checked in about 8. Called Marie to let her know we were finally there. Went to visit her and Fred til about 9:30. Not the best of Days Inn. Needs lots of TLC. But, it had beds and a shower. We snacked on some leftovers. No inet service. They blamed it on the wind. Whatever.... Watched the news-We had driven through 60 mph winds for most of the day. No wonder trailers were going over. The night before, there was an F3 tornado that wiped out a small town of 300 to the south/southeast of OK City. Neil was picking Steve up in Tulsa at the airport, then they'd be heading to Stillwater. We'll check in with them in the morning.

On the Road Again.....

Sorry to be keeping you in suspense! Didn't feel like posting on Thurs nite and last nite we had no internet service.

No pool time. Up and at'em and final packing. at 7:15 I delivered the last of the grocery items to Blanche. By the time I turned in the keys, ect, I think we were on the road by 8:30. Headed out the Bush Hiway past Usery Park and Saguaro Lake. Just gorgeous views. Sun wasn't fully out-so kind of hazy. Renee was amazed, too, at how fast the saguaros disappear once you start climbing. Stopped again in Payson for breakfast at the Bee Line. GREAT cinnamon bread french toast and yummy bacon along with an egg. Also made a stop at the quilt store there. Still has a great selection. There's always room for fabric-so we added to the collection. On up the road to Holbrook to catch I-40. What to our wondering eyes should appear but the WigWam Hotel. If you've seen the movie Cars, remember the wig wam or tepee sleeping huts? They're based on the one in Holbrook. Now I have to watch Cars again! They're so cute-couldn't see in any windows, though. Quite a collection of old cars, along with an old Doc Hudson and a good looking Mater. Out of the big city and out of the mountains, Renee took over the wheel. It was kind of nice to go back the same way today. Get a different perspective of the same views. Glad to do that! Part way to Albekwerkie, the wind really picked up. Blowing dirt all around. No white outs, but dust, for sure. She was hanging onto the wheel, as I was reading a weather bulletin citing strong winds for the afternoon. Once we got to the east side of Albekwerkie, the winds were some less. Stopped in the middle of nowhere -Clines Corners for gas and to switch drivers. Paid $4/gallon here. The wind was still blowing hard here. I took us the rest of the way to Santa Rosa. We ate at the Silver Moon-the service and food was better last year. Checked in for the night.

OH NO - IT'S TIME TO GO!

Renee's been joining me for pool exercises. She caught on real quick. Had 1 last chiro visit Tues am then we headed out to Tortilla Flats. Great day to be outside-sunny, not much wind. Lunch at the restaurant there. I'd forgotten about all the $1 bills "papering" all the walls. Took in the scenery in the bathroom, as well. The wooden doors are painted with ladies of the west. As you stand in the stall, have your picture taken as a dance hall girl! Listened to some live music outside. One of the guys played in the AZ Opry. Took a trip down the road 2 miles back to catch a ride on the Dolly Steamboat. Was smart this time and stood in line when we got there. Got tickets 5 & 6 so we could get on in the first 25 to board. Took the stairs to the top and out to the back deck. Rex was the outside guide and was good at explaining the area and any questions folks had. Couldn't find a sheep up on the mountain who was with her lamb. Maybe he was kidding us. Renee enjoyed the ride, as did I for another trip. Had a couple beers after we got home with pretzels as we each did some reading. Salads and burnt chix on the grill. That thing really cooks on high! Just scraped off the really bad spots and put the rest in the microwave to finish it. It worked! Cleaned up dishes for the night.

One last morning in the pool. Hate to see it end. Coffee with the Canadians. Dave came by and was telling motorcycle stories. Headed out for some quilt shop hopping. Found a store than Lois and I had missed. Just before we got in line to pay, the clerk was yelling at another employee just inside the office door. She was hot! She'd just had it she kept saying. Since it's a family store, I thought maybe it was her son who came by to question what was happening. She just kept saying she'd rang the bell for help and nobody came to help. Customers are lined up to the door. OHHH, she needed a chill pill and just yelled again. We left the area and pretended to look at something else. She was still fuming when we did get back in line to check out. Lucky for us, she left to talk to someone so she didn't wait on us. Off to another store that Lois and I hadn't made it to. (sorry, Lo Lo. just some new stops for next year). Lunch at Paradise. 1 or 2 more stores and back home. Stopped by Kay's unit to pick up some lemons. I can almost taste lemon meringue pie! Back to the pool one last time. The wind had kicked up but still wonderful. Switched out some laundry and time to start packing. Renee is the ultimate packer. still room in the car. Only have a few things to put in just as we leave.

More to come as we make our way back home.

Helicopters have been hanging in the sky. News tonight: a shooting at a hotel not far from here. I'm at Sossaman and Broadway. The shooting was at Main and Sossaman-about 1 mile north of us. Guess it is time to hit the road!

Pool time this morning. Was a little windy, but once the sun got higher in the sky it was great. Joined the Canadians for coffee. Val, Michelle and little Ben leave Tues night. Mel leaves on Wed afternoon. Got cleaned up after some breakfast and headed out for the days adventures. Made a detour to Bealls Outlet. Renee tried on a couple swim suits, but didn't come out a winner. I found some clothes for John James, who'll be 1 year old on 5/15. Off to the Heard Museum. Had lunch first before the tour. Left there between 4-4:30. Ok, let's see what rush hour looks like on this side of town. Only had a couple miles to exit for the Botanical Garden. Nice sculptures in the wildflower garden area. My 3rd time there, and I still have to take pictures of the cacti! Hope you enjoy the slideshow!

Finished the binding on the cathedral window sampler. Now it's time to clean up the joint! Decided I was done sewing for this trip, so packed up everything's that been holding down the couch and kitchen table. Swept the floors-even dusted a bit. That much is packed and ready for the truck. Did some dishes. Swept up the dried leaves on the patio. Took a walk around most of the rest of the park today. Made some notes on some places for sale. Didn't find anyplace for rent by owner. Guess I'll just rent through the park again. Headed off to the airport to pick up Renee, the driver for the trip home. Actually, she was glad I was doing the driving around Phx. We headed over to Sandy & Gene's. A lot of the gang was gone to Country Thunder. Met Jacob, who is 14. He is Sandy's grandson (Debby's son). What a nice young man. Sandy has done a great job being the mother figure in his life. Megan (Debby's daughter) was gone with Andrea (Sandy & Gene's daughter) to Country Thunder. Paul was busy with bike week or month, so didn't get to see him this trip, either. Heidi (Sandy & Gene's other daughter) is pregnant with a girl and c-section is scheduled for the 19th. Gene keeps saying she'll have it any day. The family has a "pool" going. You can sign up for squares for $1 each. Indicate the weight and height (vs. football scores). Will be interesting to see who wins!

Quilty Saturday

Rained pretty good during the night. Rained most of the morning. No pool time today. Did my usual putzing around. Quilted the purple twisted runner. Might as well finish it! Quilted about 1/2 of the cathedral window. Decided it was time for a walk. Not sunny, but it had quit raining. Took along a short notepad to see if any other units are for rent by owner. Probably walked 1/2 the park. Can do the other 1/2 tomorrow when its sunny. Even had my ear muffs on for the wind. I've been doing well with my allergies here this year. Better start taking my inhaler and nasal spray so I'm ready for the northern weather. Although, it was warmer in EC and OC yesterday than it was here! There was a wedding in the dining hall this afternoon. I met Tanya (like Tucker-not Tonya) at the nail shop a few weeks ago. I was able to share that info with the pool ladies on Fri am. They didn't know about it. My bad! 2nd marriage for both. Both have family who live year round in the park. They rent here in the park, too. They moved last weekend into a different unit. Not sure if there's a deal for year round rent. Don't care to know. Don't want to be a year rounder! Came back home and finished the detail quilting. Will leave the binding until morning. Watched some tv. Had a nap and then had to make the bed. Then I had trouble getting back to sleep.

Last Friday

Only about 60 this morning, but the pool was warm. Shirley is back. She's the pool leader. Had been gone for 2 weeks. Hopped in the whirlpool this morning to warm up before the run to the shower. The Canadians were having coffee when I came by after the shower. They had gone up to Sedona for a couple days. (no, they weren't ignoring me after my blunder on Monday. They had a good time up there. They thought maybe Sat. would be a good shopping day with 100% chance of rain and mid 50's as a high! A trip to the chiro again. It's working! Went to work on the final corners of one of the parts of the cathedral window piece. Watched Days. Caught up again. Bo and Hope are finally "back together" wink wink. Put together all the pieces of cathedral window. Packed up some supplies and headed over to the sewing room. Used a real ironing board for final pressing on the twisted runner and this one. Layered them out pinned them together. Ready for some stitching tomorrow. Need to do some picking up around here before Renee gets here. I should have cut some roses yesterday. They're looking forlorn in the rain this morning.

Roses are a Bloomin'

Looking out the window and enjoying the deep red/magenta roses opening up next door. Mary left last week....I did see someone else eyeing them up earlier this week. Woke up early this morning. Was tempted to have breakfast before the pool, but just had a cup of coffee. Also had a cup after pool time, hoping to run into the Canadians. Not to be found. Had some toast and pb quick. Caught up on the blog. Loaded up all the recyclables into the bike. Sorted it out at the bins. Took a small bike ride around to see what was happening. Not much. Had lunch at the patio grill today. Had a rueben. The corned beef was good back in March, so must be cleaning out the freezer. Bea is done cooking toward the end of next week. Joined a couple women. One looked familiar. Met her last year. She works on the activity committee-I think she knows everything that's going on in the park. Chatting about park models and now is the time to buy! Kathy was looking for her niece and found a nice one listed for over $100k and got it for around $80k. Just make an offer they encouraged me. I did pick up a new sheet with the latest listings. Most were the same, a couple new ones and I guess a few have sold. Took a look at a couple online again. Oh well, time is running out and have plenty of plans for next week. Won't be able to fit any time in for real estate. Watched Daze again. Caught right up after missing it a few days this week. time to sew. Cathedral window again. Interpreting the directions without anyone walking me through or demonstrating. Doing some ripping here and there. Sent a note off to Steve & Neil. Will be stopping by Stillwater next weekend on the way home. Out for supper-Mexican again. Hmmm goooooood. Stopped at Albertson's grocery this time. Haven't been to that store yet this year. Boy, prices sure seem to be high! Guess I don't always pay attention at home-so will be interesting when I do grocery shop at home again. Thursday night shows were reruns, so talked with Jim & Tootie for over an hour. Had lots to catch up on I guess!

Will be cool the next few days. Only high 50s maybe 60s and rain on Sat. Sun high barely 70. Then it warms up again into the low 80s for Renee's visit.

Kari's Day

No time for the pool today. Needed to leave by 9 to meet up with Kari. Noticed the Canadian's weren't having coffee this morning, either. Met up with Kari right on time at the Wrigley Mansion. Up steps from the parking lot and up the driveway to the stairs up again. I needed to catch my breath! Paid for our tours and waited in the library for the tour tostart. Wm. had the Wrigley Mansion built for his wife Ada's 50th anniversary present. He really spoiled her! This was the last of the homes he had built. Chicago, Lake Geneva, Catalina Island and I've already forgotten the other! 17 staff would accompany them to their homes. The mansion was finished early, and they lived here together only 8 wks before he died. This was the winter home-spent Christmas Holidays here. They each had a bedroom and private bath. A small hallway joined their bedrooms, although they said he slept in her room. He in the AZ room, so he could open the windows and she in her room by the fireplace. On a trip to Catalina, she thought she should like to live here. He bought the island and created a tile business there. That tile was used throughout the house. A guest room used by their son or daughter and another guest room used by the grandchildren. After seeing Mary Poppins, one of the granddaughters tried to jump from the balcony surounding the front entry. Luckily, her father was walking through at the time and caught her. The living room hold a player piano. It has scrolls in it-nobody in the family could play. It also had a remote control (with a large cord attached). It is insured for more than the rest of the house and contents! After Hormel bought the house, he would come on weekends to play. A hippie looking character, lunch and dinner guests would comment that it was nice of them to let a homeless man play. Wrigley had the Biltmore hotel built for guests. After our lunch, we strolled around the grounds of the Biltmore and viewed quite a few old photos of it being built and some of the regular guests that have stayed there. A guest had called the front desk once and complained about a ruckkas outside her room. The worker asked her to open her door to see who it was and then tell them what they should do about it. When she opened the door, it was Sammy Davis, Jr, Liza Minelli and Frank Sinatra giving an impromtu show! That was a pretty sharp person at the desk! Strolled around the grounds like we had a room there. Went down the street to the Biltmore Shopping Area. Shared a slice of cheesecake. (note the remote control on the right)

Decided that next year I'll be going over to Kari's house to help her with yardwork! We may take a day trip to Arcosanti, which is a self-sufficient community north of Phx. I went up the road north a couple exits to another quilt store called Quiltz. Nothing really jumped out at me. Did buy some fabric for the backing on the purple runner and the cathedral window piece I've not worked on lately. The weather will be cool and wet for Fri and Sat. Sounds like sewing weather to me. Came home during some rush hour traffic, but not as bad as I thought it might be. Had leftover tuna salad for supper. Need to make a grocery run for the last week. . . sniff . . . sniff

Picnic, AZ Opry Day

The Canadians must have plans. Didn't have coffee with them-came home and made my own. Playing around on the computer and was almost late getting ready for the singles picnic! Made it over to the mailboxes in time. Since there were many drivers, I was asked to go along with Mary Kay and Ann. The park was really close by. I thought we were really going to a park at The Red Mountain, not Red Mountain Park. Gas grill was heating up. They bought big (good) hotdogs from the kitchen. Condiments and dishes to pass. Brought a lot of tuna salad home with me, though. 19 people in attendance. None were shy about asking the newcomer who she was and from where. Are you sure you're old enough? Let's see some ID! She's not old enough to be drawing Soc Sec! Yep, I was right. A group of white haired ladies. Mostly 70s and 80s. Couple men. But 1 was a "couple" with the president. Another one seemed to be "coupled" up, too. Dave was part of the group. Originally from LaFarge WI and currently from Oregon. Bought a used RV on Craig's list. Bought a used 650cc motorcycle on Craig's list. Bought a used bike rack to fit on the hitch on Craig's list. Ventured south for about 6 months, I think. His brother has a place in the park. He's renting a RV spot from someone. After lunch the new officers were elected for next year. I just sat back and listened to the "discussions" going on. I don't think this group is for me.....yet! Came back home and cooled off for a while. It was really nice at the park under the pavillion and a nice breeze blowing through. Talked with Marie about pick up time for the Opry. Of course, we were way early. I knew the doors didn't open until 5:30. Think we were there at 4:45! When they opened the doors, who was there to meet us, but John Denver! A pretty good look alike, tho! Large room to seat 500 people. Fred found out there were 460 for dinner/show tonight. What a system they have. No trays-all come from the kitchen 3-4 plates at a time. Some of the wait staff are also part of the show or part of the crew to put on the show. Had chicken, dressing, smashed potatoes/gravy, coleslaw and mixed vegs. And, wonderful chocolate cake to finish! AZ Opry is a family business. One twin sister is the general manager and drummer; the other is co-producer of the show (keyboards and various instruments and singing) with her husband who is the musical director. 3 guitar players and John Denver played a variety of instruments, as well. They have a collection of old and also famous instruments-one of Doc Severinson's horns and others as well. Nice variety show. Last show of the season, so they pull together the favorites from all the season's shows. Mothers day is the last day. Then they'll be moving to Estes Park CO to open a theatre there. Not sure what John Denver will do--he's a park ranger in Rocky Mtn Nat'l forest during the summer months. Maybe he'll do double duty this summer. Intermission and everyone goes to work mingling in the crowd, taking photos, selling CD's. Was a nice evening. Rocky Mountain High was the finale.

Busy Monday

Pool time-as usual. Fewer numbers. Lot of people have left and some are just busy. Got "cornererd" by some women to join the Singles Picnic on Tuesday. Vi had been talking it up to me to join in next year. They said to come on Tuesday. Had coffee with the Canadians this morning. Met their other daughter Val; daughter in law Michelle and grandbaby Ben. ( Don't be stupid like me and ask if she left her husband was home!) I know this happens a lot, but I still make wrong assumptions! Oh well, we got through that. Really enjoy our daily coffee routine. Had a quick breakfast and now off to the chiro again today. Seeing/feeling improvement. Then to JoAnns for some thread-forgot to pick some up at the quilt store on Saturday. Of course, I haven't done any more sewing on it since. Been too busy! Had some lunch at Wok In. Vietnamese. The health inspector was there, so gave him some grief on my way out. Then to Turning Point Beauty School. Pretty plain jane inside. Just seemed like there was only 1 class of students. Time clocks. 2 instructors. No uniforms. All wore a black apron. Sandals, open toed shoes, actually, they looked kind of unkempt-in comparison to Gateway students. My former teachers would've died I think! The instructor did the color consult. Said she'd go over it with the student in back. hmmm. Student was confident and didn't hesitate at what she was doing. They only use Milady textbooks-no Pivot Point. 1600 hours. student didn't know if she would be getting a combined barber/cosmetology license or just cosmetology. She graduates in May. Color looks good. Cut went well. I asked to have more taken off-clipper cut around the nape and over the ears. Don't you like this technical stuff? I have a degree in cosmo by absorption!

Was out of there shortly after 3-I thought it might take until 4. Color/cut for $28. Gee, Julie, I might not see you again!

Went to the pool again. Threw some clothes in the dryer. Putzzed around a bit. Singles bring a dish to pass-so decided to use up the last of the pasta and made tuna salad. Threw in some cheese, carrots/peas, little onion and celery. Mixed up some salad dressing and ranch dressing. Pretty tasty when I made it, so should be good by picnic time. Found some paper plates here, so set to go! Talked with Lois & Jim. They were at the house overnite-leaving for FL in early morning. She played phone messages for me. Nothing much important.

Just Never Know....

Saturday pool time. Only about 10 or 11 of us now. So many have packed up and left. Although, some people are just getting company with the various spring break schedules. Did a little reading. Took inventory of fabrics to see if I had enough of the right stuff to make up the catherdral window sampler. Not quite. Took a trip over to a small quilt store. I knew Bernina didn't carry many batiks. Found 3 pieces to go with 2 I wanted to use. Sat down with my sandwich for lunch and watched an episode of Sara's House on HGTV. Then changed the channel and found a western movie. Watched about half of it-then called Jen and Renee on their way home from their little quilt camp. Pulled out the new fabrics and started cutting. Put together 6 blocks before I headed out for supper. Picked up a pool lady from MI. We've been chatting in the pool. I overheard her say she'd not been to Paradise Bakery. That was all the hint I needed to invite her along. Vi was all dressed up for our night out. I had chipoltle chicken cesear salad. She had the famous roasted tomato soup and 1/2 chicken cesear salad. She really enjoyed it and said she'd be back again. We sat and chatted for quite a while. Headed back home and picked up some mail. Was really nice outside-still in the 80's.

Woke up a little earlier today. Had to check email and fb. Showered and cleaned up. Marla called. Told her it was a bit early for a call-didn't work-she'd seen me on the computer earlier. Decided to go to the Mesa Market Swap Meet today. It's free to get in; but can cost you to get out! It's on Fri, Sat and Sun from 7-4. In chatting with others, it doesn't really get alive until 9. Stopped for coffee and carmel roll at Paradise-it's just around the corner from the Swap Meet. Found a lightweight hoodie that I'd seen all over last year. Yep, she had it in my size. She's from Cable! Works at Telemark during the summer months. I thought her price was right, too. Later saw the same jackets for $10 more. All kinds of stuff-4 big buildings. Clothes, tools, bungie cords-and a new bungie with a nob or big button that I'd not seen before. 7 Mile Fair to the nth degree! Have to check the prices. I think some prices were better at the Market Place at the resorts. It was a good time. Some will haggle, others not so much. I bought a sagauro cactus to plant in the front berm. It should look really nice there! Nicholson Rd will never be the same! Stopped by the bank ATM. Here's a new scam to watch out for. A little boy-5-7 came over by me. I turned to look at him. He didn't say anything. I knew the cash would soon be coming out. I moved closer to the machine to block his view. Once the cash came out, he moved closer and asked if he could have one! I said, I think not! Then he walked all the way to the end of the check out lanes and I heard him holler to his dad. I should've told the kid he could have one for $20 and see what he would've done. Came home for a short visit. Headed out of town on the Usery Pass Rd toward Bush Rd to Saguaro Lake. Beautiful scenery! Love the mountains and the cacti. Not many wildflowers. Some cacti in peoples' yards are ready to flower. Even a few here in the park. Stopped to look around. Had a little lunch. Came back into town on Bush Hwy. It comes into town on Power Rd-1 big road to the west of me. When we leave, we'll head out the way I did today. Came home. Pool time. Like going out in the sun late in the afternoon. Saw one of the pool ladies there. 1/2 hour-time to flip-but I hit the pool instead. Puttering around and started chatting with 2 women from the U P. They're sisters-in-law. Very nice. Mary and Jackie. I recognized Jackie-she volunteers in the kitchen. Visited a while. I got out to dry off. Moved to a different spot, as mine was now in the shade. Comfy in the sunshine. Then some guy says, are these chairs taken? I looked up and said they look empty to me. Could I take his picture so he could show his friends? He wanted to be sure I got others in the pool, too. Took a few-he checked them and asked for a couple more. In the meantime, Jackie called my name and told me to come over by them when I was done. Jackie and Mary warned me to stay away from him. He likes to "attach" himself to people and bug them to death. So, I just pulled up a chair and sat by them! He tries to get into dances without paying. He comes to events and wants to know what food he can take home with him. They said his wife won't dance with him, so he's always asking other women to dance. Nah, he wasn't any good looking. I teased them that I was finally getting some action and they warned me not to! Not much else today. Time for some TV.

Same Old Same Old

Not much to report for 2 days. Off to the pool. Enjoy visiting with my Canadian neighbors from last year. they come for breakfast/coffee each morning by the pool. Their daughter arrived Wed night. Thurs nite they went to the Organ Pizza Stop. They really enjoyed it. Thought it would be a good place to take their other daughter/baby after they arrive on Friday. I finished the twisted table runner but not happy with it. Note to other Nerdy Quilters: I knew the fabrics were too "blendy" "matchy-matchy" for that pattern. This is a good example of what NOT to do. When a pattern needs contrast-use contrast. I've been waiting for a pattern to arrive. It's a sampler of cathedral windows. It finally arrived yesterday. I've not gone through the fabrics I bought along the way to see if I have what I need or to make a quick run over to the Bernina store that's close by. The temperature officially got to 100 at the airport yesterday. the truck said 99 as I went to the movie theatre at 5 to escape the heat. Saw the King's Speech. Still lots of people going to see it. Its the end of the month, so lots of people are leaving the resort. There was a motor home down the street from MN. He kept waxing a small part of his jeep and his RV daily to get around both of them before they left. Not sure if he made it or not. They were pulling out as I was coming home from the pool yesterday. I stopped and gave them a queen's wave. Talked with Marie. She made reservations for us for Tues nite at the AZ Opry. It's just down the road in Apache Jct. Dinner theatre. Should be good. Variety show is on now. Seems kind of empty around here. Both of my neighbors have already left. The old guy from Hartford has his for sale now. Still enjoy my pool ladies. Picked up another book from the library here. Just a sleezy little book. 1/2 way through that one, too. Haven't felt like sewing-just staying in the AC. Haven't done anymore with the Rte 66 quilt. Waiting to see some long arm designs.
